Name: Neji Hyuga
Alias: None
Rank: Chuunin
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Village: Konohagakure
Clan: Hyuga
Appearance: Neji is paled skinned despite living outside a lot of his life, with white eyes. He is slight and athletic-looking, with long black hair which usually tied in a kind of loose pony-tail. His eyes, or course, are not always such a soft white. When he is using a jutsu which is unique to his clan, they stay white, but are surrounded by veins. His clothing is usually a brownish-grey t-shirt, with dark blue shorts. His right leg is bandaged and he wears his clan-headband on his forehead, not on the arm like some ninja. This covers a tattoo that looks like a cross with spokes on the end of each stroke. His hair is tied back by a small, grey-colored piece of fabric. As well as his leg, his right arm is also bandaged. His hair falls in two shorter strands from his headband. He wears a small leather bag attached to his waist at the back which contains weapons. He wears shoes that are open at the toes and reach all the way up to above his ankles. He is medium hieght, and he is quite slim and athletic looking. This means that he has both spped and power, and although he is slower and not as powerful as some, he makes up for it with sheer force of will - although you'll never hear him admit it. The tattoo it akways covered with his headband, and he very rarely, if ever, takes it off or shows anyone. Emotion is not something that comes easily to him, and so his face is usually flat and unreadable, whilst he reads his opponent like another would read a book. Hate is always somewhere near the surface - at least when other members of his clan are around - and sometimes grief, although he'll be the lkast one to admit it.
Special body armor: Neji doesn’t wear any special body amour.
Personality: Neji isn’t the easiest person to get along with, mainly because he has a very strange way of looking at the world. Or at least he did. He used to think that ones place in the world was fixed – that no amount of hoping or dreaming is going to get you anywhere. That no matter how hard you try, if something isn’t meant to happen then it won’t happen. Basically he thought that everything that would ever happen was decided at birth, and that a person couldn’t influence anything in his if her life, because nothing they would ever do would change anything. Then, during the exams that he would later pass and become a Chuunin, he found that his life changed. [Explained in history.] He is still cold and sometimes aloof, willing to give wisdom that is sometimes harsh and cruel. Neji is, in a way, sensitive, because he can see when another person is feeling something. The only thing is he doesn’t push them one way or another, almost as if he couldn’t care less about them, which is probably true. He is ready to fight for what he believes in – he had proven that again and again, and although he can be tricky to get to know, it isn’t all that hard to understand him. He can be fierce when speaking sometimes, and isn’t happy or joyful at all, it’s hard to even raise a smile, almost as if he’s forgotten, how. Neji has a very serious nature and rarely jokes around, if ever.
Weapons: Neji is more of a hands-on fighter, when it comes to weapons he carries very little. But he does carry 2 or three kunai, and even four of five shuriken.
Main fighting style: Neji is part of the Hyuga Clan, and even though e is only a member of the branch family, the special jutsu runs true in his blood, perhaps more so than the main branch family, although they won’t accept this. He uses his eyes to see into the chakra of his opponent, he can see the way the chakra flows through the body of an enemy. By hitting certain places on his opponent, Neji can limit the flow of chakra, redirect it and even stop it all together. He also has an almost unstoppable defense, 360 degree visions. He caused chakra to flow from his hands and then spins, blocking attack from all sides.
Fighting strength: Get up close where he can influence the chakra of his opponent, pull no punches when it comes to attacking and don’t toy with your opponent. Mainly focus of driving your opponent into the dust, but fall back and defend if things get too much. Turn the strength of the opponent against him, that way you won’t have to rely on your own strength – you can use your opponents strength to your advantage as well.
Fighting weakness: Although it says ‘360 degree vision’ Neji can’t see everything around him, With his skill and chakra he can see almost everywhere – accept for a weak spot at his back. He learned to his cost that it doesn’t do to think to yourself invincible when it comes to defense. Not only that but because Neji has to get up close for his jutsu to work, so against an opponent who is fast and can keep their distance he had a major disadvantage.
Team members: None, but his old team mates – Rock Lee and Tenten are still around, as is their tutor, Gai.
Friends/family: Hinata Hyuga:
Hinata Hyuga is the daughter of Neji’s uncle. She is part of the main branch of the clam, whilst Neji is just part of a lesser branch. Neji hates her and everything she stands for, even though she tries as hard as she can to win his respect. It’s nothing personal, well, not entirely personal. [Explained in history] either way, Neji hates that main branch of the clan, even if Hinata hasn’t committed any crime worse than being born to the wrong parents.
Tenten
An old team mate of Neji’s, and even though they are in a team no longer, he has more to learn from her than he could possibly know. He is beginning to see beyond when his eyes tell him, but there is too much history for him to just turn away as if it never happened. He will need friends like Tenten now more than ever, even though he’ll never admit it.
Rock Lee
An old team mate of Neji’s, who didn’t come along when Sasuke was ‘captured’ to help them bring him back – until later. Neji had something to learn from that patent, never-say-die spirit, and although it is uncannily like another young ninja who was constantly on his case [Cue Naruto] they clicked some kind of switch, because Neji has changed from what he once was.
Everyone who has seen the anime or read the manga will be able to understand that the list is very long. I’ll probably add more, later if that’s ok.
Other companions: None really. Don’t think he has a fan who follows him around as if he’s got nothing better to do.
Character history: [ :P]
The Hyuga clan was a very respected clan, and still is, but they have a tradition of having branches of their clan. There is the main branch, those who were born first and so, apparently, inherited the blood of the clan the strongest, and then there were the branch families, those who were born after their older siblings, and were banished to lesser branches. Neji’s father was a twin, but he was born moments after his older brother, and because of that he was banished to a lesser branch of the clan. The Hyuga Clan has several jutsu’s that are unique to their clan. And which are protected fiercely, and one of these is the Cursemark Jutsu. So called because whenever a member of the lesser branches turns four, a brand is placed upon his fore head ‘sealing him away like a bird in a cage’ as described by Neji himself. Most would consider this cruel, and unnecessary, but the Hyuga clan needed to keep the lesser branch family in their place. They can use this Cursemark to turn the bearer’s brain to mush, or to cause pain. An effective way to keep the ranks in line. When he was four, as with everyone, the mark was branded on his forehead, but he thought nothing of it. He was proud to serve the main branch, and was blind to the sadness in his fathers eyes. Then one day Hinata was training and something went wrong, and his Uncle used the power of the Cursemark, to cut a ling story short, his father ended up on the floor, and Neji with him. It was a terrible reminder of the power the main branch had over them, that they were treated like criminals who had committed no crime. The resentment was there, but that was it.
But then one day. A member of another clan was killed – by Neji’s uncle, supposedly the other man had been spying, but this has never been proven. Despite everything, the clans met and the sentenced was passed. Neji’s uncle would be put to death, do that the other clan would be appeased. But it wasn’t Neji’s uncle who was put to death, no, it was his father. As tradition and law stated the lesser branch lives to protect and serve the main branch. Only in death can they be finally free of this task. Neji’s father went to his death, but Neji had no idea that it was his own choice. That his father chose to die for his older brother, and that he wasn’t forced into the choice as he believed, right up until he was beaten by Naruto in the Chuunin exams. After his father died, Neji fostered a great and terrible hate for the main branch family, especially his uncle, and even his cousin, Hinata. When he and Hinata met in the Chuunin exams, she wanted his respect, more than anything. Just because she was part of the main branch gave him no reason to think he weak and helpless. But he beat her to a pulp [not literally, but you know] and Naruto wasn’t all that pleased about it, so there was the whole drama of his challenging Neji, and in the end they ended up fighting. Neji was beaten, and after the fight he learned the truth about what had happened – that his father had willingly taken the place of his brother. Ever since then he wasn’t as black as before, and he stopped believing that he could see everything, and know everything, up until around now.
Role play Sample: [It’s not very inspired, but it’s good as a sample =3 ]
Neji Hyuga stepped out silently, scanning the terrain carefully, again and again. There was no room for imperfection, if he got one thing wrong he would fail. And he must not fail, under any circumstances. He knew it was a bad idea, stepping out into the open, leaving himself wide open if an attack came. But he didn’t see any other options, at least not now. If he stayed in the forest any longer he would be killed, the numerous traps that riddled the area were amazingly sharp, even for his eyes. He often didn’t see an attack coming until it was far too late, and he had a cut on the side of his face to prove it. He was angry about that, no matter how small the cut was. It was very straight and thin, small drops of red weeping from the tear in the skin every so often. He cursed to himself, mentally running through his checklist. Every bow ticked, he knew that the only thing now would be to summon up the courage to step out. Courage. What a strange term, one that he wasn’t all that familiar with. If someone wanted him to go something he did it, as best as he could until someone told him to stop. There was no ‘courage’ no ‘fear’ just the action and the consequence. But here he was standing in the shadows at the edge of the wood, and now he felt something creeping through him, making him have second thought about making a dash for the oasis. He knew that it was supposed to be like this – the test was designed to test you mentally and physically, and up until now he had been doing fine. But then that kunai had come, seemingly out of nowhere and he had come close to panic. He knew that it was only a matter of time before he stumbled, made a mistake, and then one of the traps would get him.
But he felt safe in the shelter of the forest – one of those numerous rules they had been taught during training – always find shelter. He knew that this move would make or break the test, pass or fail, win or lose. He was prepared to take the gamble, and so he found himself wondering why he hesitated, why he questioned every move he made, every step he took. Usually this wouldn’t have fazed him, he would not have thought, he would just have gone. Why then, now when he needed to be strong and calm, did his mind insist on playing the skittish Genin? He wasn’t a student anymore, and so he had best start acting like the Chuunin he was supposed to be. Squaring his shoulders, Neji bounded through the wasteland that suddenly gave way to the forest, knowing that speed would be his only ally here. He ran forwards, darting left and then right, waiting for the attack he knew would come. The oasis loomed ahead, and still nothing, and yet he was sure that he instincts had not been wrong. There was something here, he was sure of it. He knew the rules of the test – get to the oasis and you were safe, get there as quickly as you could. That was all. He reached the balmy waters and looked around, uncertainty nagging. Was that it? Then it hit him – the real test hadn’t been finding the stick needed to leap clear of the forest. It wasn’t just the danger involved, it was having the intelligence to asses a situation and know when it was time to move on, even if it was from a reasonably defendable one to one that was open to attack. He allowed himself a small smile, just one. Brief and flickering. Neji Hyuga was ready to make it on his own.
