Name: Hayase Shinjiro (Japanese format)
Alias: Haya-kun, Shinji
Rank: Genin
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Village:Leaf
Clan: None
Appearance: Shinjiro stands at about one hundred and sixty centimetres (around five foot four). He looks skinny and lacking in build, but is surprisingly muscled. He is lightly tanned, and has little to no freckles, only the odd one on his arm or leg. Shinji is broad-shouldered and long-legged, and has the build of someone who is going to be much taller. He is lean like a runner, and shows it with his large amount of stamina and running speed. Shinjiro has average arms, and coarse hands, as he pushes himself beyond his limit when training.
Shinji has dark hair, black in colour, which is medium-length and is never really styled, and doesn’t have a set natural position. Some days it stays spiked from rolling around in his sleep, others it lays flat down over his brow, covering the tops of his eyes. Most of the time the front lies down over his fringe and the rest spikes out the back. It is straight and lacks real weight. He has deep brown eyes which appear to contain loneliness and a history of unlucky events. They watch everything, but take in little, unless it counts. His eyes do not bulge from his head or seem unseeingly tidy. They sit on either side of his nose, as normal as anyone’s eyes.
Shinjiro wears light and comfortable clothing, practical for ninja use. He wears a sleeveless shirt, navy in colour, on his under layer. It is more often than not stained from the training he does, and has a blood stain on the lower back from an earlier incident. On top of that, he wears a jacket, which is a light shade of black, and only has one sleeve, on the left arm. On both arms he wears fingerless gloves, and has an armband on his sleeveless side. His un-sleeved arm is covered by ninja mesh. Shinjiro’s legs are covered by shorts, one leg being three quarter length (the right one this time), and the other just under halfway. White ninja wrap covers his ankles, and ninja mesh covers the rest of his visible right leg. He wears your common black ninja sandals, and has his forehead protector tied with a short knot around his forehead, with a black cloth.
Special body armor: Apart from his ninja forehead protector, and light metal pads on the sides of his gloves, no real special body armour is worn by Shinjiro.
Personality: Shinjiro is a quiet person, with little to no social skills. He doesn’t talk to many people, and as such has no friends. Most people call him a “silent weirdo”, and he can be just that, though not all the time. A lot of his peers just spite him, but he gave up caring years ago. He has been an orphan as long as he can remember, and as such has a lonely nature. He does desire to have friends, but he just lacks the social nature he needs to talk to new people.
Shinji is very intelligent and calculating, but he doesn’t try very hard. He isn’t lazy as such, but enjoys his sleep, and trying hard in the academy never really felt like something he had to do. He enjoys a good meal and hates people who think they are better than everyone else. He has a down-to-earth attitude and rarely dreams about being a better ninja, much in contrast to the rest of his peers. Shinjiro can be harsh and cold, but most of the time he is just venting his frustration at loneliness. He is calm and patient, which is probably the best, otherwise he’d get very annoyed at everyone. He doesn’t care what others think about him, and sometimes deliberately annoys people he dislikes by simply ignoring them.
He is rarely seen angry, but his anger is not something to mess with. He completely loses it, and just wants to punch and pummel the person or thing that made him angry.
Weapons: Shinjiro carries a small arsenal on him.
He has 30 Shuriken
4 kunais
10 metres of ninja wire
A windmill shuriken
Paper for writing seals
All of this is stored inside a nifty storage scroll.
Main fighting style: Shinjiro is a very tactical fighter. He combines ninjutsu and well prepared traps for effective use...Sometimes. He has poor chakra control, and doesn't fight very well. Or much all round strength. He has alot of potential to be stronger, but he isn't brilliant right now. He needs training, and trains himself everyday. Not to much avail though.
Fighting strength: His strength lies in the fact that all his ninja skills are around the same level of strength, as well as having a tactical mind, he can combine them for devastating combinations, but his over all statistics are very low, so even the 'devastating' combinations don't work effectively if his level isn't overtly high. As said before, this combination of ninja skills gives him the potential to be much greater and more powerful, if he worked for it.
Fighting weakness: Simply, his weakness is a lack of any real skill in any field. His chakra control is exceptionall poor, but the rest of his skills are quite below the average. Shinji also lacks the knowledge of how various techniques work together, putting him at a disadvantage to others at his level.
Team members: [Pending Naruto's team application]
Friends/family: ...None. He's a very unliked person.
Other companions: N/A
Character history: Shinjiro was born into a happy family. And he stayed that way for years on end. Until he was three, when his parents went on a ninja mission, and never returned. They may have went missing, because their bodies were never found, but most just reckon they were killed-in-action. Shinjiro had no living relatives after this, and abandoned his native personality and became an altogether. He pushed himself very hard to become a skilled ninja, like his parents would have been proud of him, but he lacked encouragement to improve his skill. Other children picked on him because he was so inept at his ninja skills. Instead of becoming angry, he just drew up within himself, and never really tried to make friends. So people neglected him even more. No one ever came to his parent meetings, and when people made fun of him for it, he just returned home and shut himself up in his room.
Life was looking down for him, and one day on a field-trip to a river within one of the training zones, he decided he wasn’t going to be a ninja anymore. Just as he made-up his mind, he realized the group had wandered off without him. All this did was make him even more downtrodden, they even forgot he was there, apparently. Whilst trying to wander back, he found a young wolf, caught on a fence. The creature seemed to have given up. Shinjiro felt sorry for it, and decided to help it out, likening it to his own condition. He freed the young creature from the fence, and it seemed to want to thank him. But then Shinjiro heard a noise in the distance, and turned to see a pack of wolves. It occurred to him that they had come to retrieve their companion. But seeing the injured wolf beside Shinjiro, who had used a kunai to cut the beast free, they did not take kindly to him, and leapt to attack, but the rescued wolf barked at them, and they stopped. Shinjiro was amazed. But he recognized the closeness, and after they left, he sat and drew into himself. But he heard a voice, he looked out from the bush he was sitting in and saw the class, looking for him. He waved at them, and at last found them. It was at this very moment that Shinjiro noticed the likeness of ninja’s to wolves, and also noticed they really did care about them, or at least the sensei did. Just having one person care about him, even slightly, inspired him, and he pushed himself to pass the Genin exam, even if it was only slightly. Otherwise he would not have. The sensei passed him his forehead protector with a smile. A great big one, bigger than he did when he passed it to all the other new Genin. Shinjiro smiled back, for the first time in what seemed like years. It may well have been, knowing his lifestyle. Shinjiro was assigned to Naruto’s team, and vowed he would be better, rather just a below-average ninja. He would aim to be the strongest ninja he could.
Role play Sample: An empty wind blew throughout the empty streets of Konohagakure no sato. A very unusual sight to see an empty ninja village, but most where asleep. Except for the night-shift ANBU, but no one could see them. The whole place was as quiet as a sleeping mouse, and no matter what way you walked, it stayed that way. Because it was 5:10 in the morning, and most weren’t crazy enough to be up at this time. Most.
But not Shinjiro. He was in the training fields, kicking and punching away at a wooden dummy. He’d be going at this for a couple of hours now. Why? Because he wanted to be as skilled and strong as he could for when he met his new team in a few days. So he was going to train hard, non-stop, and then sleep the last day before-hand, to make sure he was ready. He didn’t want to look bad in front of his new teammates and sensei. He already knew that he would though, so his aim was to get rid oft hat…or at least make it look better.
He planned to stop at 7, when the Ramen shop opened, so he could get a quick breakfast. He didn’t want to waste valuable training time making his own, and it wasn’t too far from the training field he was currently in.
A few more hours passed, and a few more people woke up. But as 7 came, Shinjiro collapsed from exhaustion. He that he had achieved nothing, so he sighed, packed up his equipment and walked sluggishly off to the Ramen Bar.
